Tips For A Successful Kitchen Home Improvement Project

Next to bathroom home improvements, kitchen home improvements can provide the best return on investments for improving the value of your home – where every dollar spent in the bathroom increases home sale price by about $5, nearly every dollar spent in the kitchen increases home sale price by about $3. As kitchen home improvements can range from the simple to the extravagant, this is something that needs to be targeted carefully.

First, decide what you dislike about your current kitchen. It may have a truly horrible work flow, with counters and appliances set around in odd locales making it hard to work productively. Maybe you want to have an island counter for staging food preparation, or maybe you’ve developed a deep aversion to harvest gold or want more shelf space to work with.

If your desire for kitchen home improvements is simple, the first and often times most often overlooked aspect to try is refinishing the kitchen cabinets. Take a moment to consider this – if your kitchen is too dark, sanding down the finish off your cabinets, installing maple or light oak trim and a new varnish can often be done in under a week, and without expensive contractors coming in. (You may have to eat out for a week while everything is curing…) The best part about it is that as anyone who’s ever gotten contractor quotes on a kitchen can attest, getting professionally fitted cabinets is expensive. Everything has to be custom fitted, and lathed and put together, and budget can get blown out the window, and fast.

Funding Kitchen Renovation Projects Easily

Remodeling a kitchen is actually very difficult, but when compared with paying for the work to be done it seems really easy. The hardest part of any home improvement project is funding it. Many people don’t renovate their kitchens not because it doesn’t need doing, but because they lack the money required to do the project. If you have a very old kitchen which has dirt ingrained in all of the surfaces which can’t be removed with cleaning then you should probably consider doing a kitchen renovation project.

You should also consider renovating your kitchen if you have the presence of lead paint, or appliances which are broken. If you spend a little money fixing these problems now it can protect your family for a long time to come.

Dining Room Furniture Arrangement Guide

When buying dining room furniture, you need to take into account several factors; firstly the shape, size and the dimensions of the room or dining area, secondly the feel or mood that you want to create, that is casual and relaxed, or formal or traditional and so on; thirdly you need to consider what shape of dining table and the number of chairs that you need and lastly consider what other items of dining furniture or decorative elements you think the room needs; that is other than a dining table and chairs. Depending upon the space at your disposal and also your own requirements, decide what are the exact pieces of furniture that you need for your dining room.

The Table: The focal point of your dining room furniture, choose this with care. Choose from rectangular (conventional six seater or more), square table (smart four seater or eight seater), round table (elegant and a great space saver, can seat four, six, eight etc). Ideally the shape and size of the dining room should be taken into account when deciding the shape of the table. It should be neither so big that it dwarfs the dining area nor so small that it gets lost in it.

The Chairs: Consider how many dining room chairs you require for your dining table, often this fact will be dictated by the type of dining table you buy; that is the size and shape of the dining table. If you feel that 4 chairs are adequate for your purposes, consider circular or square shaped dining tables. Also consider whether you need armchairs at your tables or not; you can even decide to mix here; consider putting armchairs at each head of the table while having chairs without arms at the other seating spots. Also consider whether upholstered chairs, leather finish chairs or wood finish chairs are suitable for your purposes and preferences. Also consider the height and weight of the chairs, they should be high enough and wide enough for comfort and should be light enough for easy movement; while at the same time they should not be so light as to be unstable and prone to tipping over.
